How to Create a Strategy That Produces Results

Is your business strategy producing the results that you want? I've found that there are two types of businesses. One has a strategy but the daily activities dont match what the strategy calls for. The other just acts without any type of strategy or direction at all. Both carry a high degree of risk of failure.

A Sustainable organization is one where all of the parts are working together as a team to accomplish organizational goals. These organizations are innovative, customer responsive, and prevent fires- they're not spending their time putting out fires. Are you?

Sustainability starts with strategy. It is the company's formula for success. Strategy lays the foundation for where an organization wants to go in the next 18-24 months. I find that many organizations have a strategy but it's missing several critical components. Your strategy must include:

- Your vision for the future and your vision to be sustainable.
- Your core values. These are what drive behaviors.
- Your objectives for the next year. What it is absolutely imperative that you accomplish.
- Goals with action steps and a clear plan of execution including accountability and measurements to accomplish your objectives.
- Developing a more loyal customer base must be included also.

When was the last time you reviewed your strategy?

Has your organization defined what success looks like?

Becoming a sustainable business does not have to be a constant uphill struggle. You and your employees will achieve more once they know and share the same vision and then agree on the steps needed to realize that vision. You can develop a self-perpetuating process for sustainable improved results as you focus daily behaviors on those activities that lead to the execution of your business plan and attainment of the results you want. Sound impossible? It's not.

It starts with changing your thinking, because your thinking directly determines your outcomes. When you change your thinking, your beliefs that drive your attitudes change your actions (behaviors). Effective execution of your strategy goes hand in hand with your attitudes and the attitudes of your employees. Continual practice of this combined with improved ability to set and achieve goals starts you on a path where you create success because you believe in success. Then the vision of tomorrow quickly becomes today's results.
