It is vital for the academic societies of present to ensure that their teachings help students to make a brighter future. By polling both potential graduates and post graduates, schools could better understand what subject matter may better prepare their students for the work environment.
Post graduates have to shift from their work at school, to an environment where they must prove themselves in society. Some business' offer "career development plans" to educate students about work environments. While this is a good opportunity, it is still important for schools to ensure that all their students are aware of the workplace and its factors. Most students spend between two to four years studying what they want to become. Education is important, but if they do not know how to apply it to the business side of work, they may not find a niche in society.
Polls could be taken to assist schools in creating and applying curriculum to develop workplace skills that apply to a particular subject. If you are an engineer, your job requirements are different from a newspaper editor. By surveying their students, the school can adapt to involve the necessary teachings for the business side that the job would require. Additions to their particular subjects may include: Cost, legalities, limitations, documentation, and risks that apply to their workplace. These factors may not normally be explained thoroughly while a student is in class, and many times graduates will not learn how to cope with these circumstances until they actually begin to work.
