It is a very interesting situation at the moment when we start to realize the financial ramifications of keeping marijuana illegal. It is well documented that when something is repressed and made 'wrong' it has an uncanny knack of surfacing in ways that are much more undesirable than the alternative.

Now I'm not sure about you, but if the US government was able to properly and safely regulate the use of marijuana and include a well thought out taxing system the country could be making billions in revenue each and every year.

On top of all this is the financial strain that is placed on the US by enforcing criminal charges related to cannabis use and possession. Over 800,000 people are charged every single year in the US and research has shown that it costs hard-working taxpayers $10,400 for each pot smoker arrested off the streets by police.

I truly believe that we need a new way of looking at marijuana and its place in the US. Im not talking about full-fledged legalization but there must be a way that we can curb the legal ramifications so this wasted money can be reinvested to help the current US financial situation in a meaningful way.

The lowering of marijuana's bad image has been seen recently with the inception and acceptance of it's potency when it comes to relieving pain and health ailments.

You cannot deny the fact that marijuana has been very prevalent over the last 50 years. Researchers recently announced that 42% of the people they surveyed admitted to smoking marijuana at some point in their life.

Another perspective we must keep in mind is that the more marijuana legalization if repelled, the more the prices for it on the drug market go up. Prohibition is literally keeping the drug dealers in business. It has been reported that as a group the drug-dealers out there are some of the people who are most against making marijuana legal.

Maybe it is time to weigh up the options and realize that keeping a closed-mindedness about the financial opportunities that could arise from intelligently creating to legal laws is actually doing far much more damage than good. It is no longer acceptable to just be lazy and agree with enforcements that were laid down decades ago. Much water has passed under the bridge since those times and it is only fair that we liberate our financial worries by looking at how we can generate revenue inside the boundaries of our country..

I'm not one-hundred percent sure of the route to take. I think getting balanced information of subjects like these is the way to go. Of course, the US is spending tonnes of money on keeping cannabis legal, but at the same time it is protecting ourselves and our loved ones from the dark side of this drug.
