Living in the USA Has Its Advantages - Such As Freedom to Surf Abundant Information
It seems that Americans often complain about their freedom, but the reality is we have it pretty good here. Even though our government and some of our leaders like to keep secrets from us, there are folks inside the government running the bureaucracy who are also Americans. And, because we are a nation for the people and by the people - we are the government, and therefore, we all believe the same thing. We believe in freedom and liberty, and we are against censorship, unless it is a matter of national security.
Yes, living in the United States has incredible advantages, and we are allowed to surf the Internet for an abundance of free information. Just about everything under the sun is online, and people spend countless hours researching topics which interest them. But what happens if you live in China, where the government controls everything, and there is some things they don't want you to know. They don't want you to demand freedom or liberty, or challenge their authority.
There was an interesting article on June 29, 2011 in Sino Daily Online titled; "China Asks Provinces to Repress Web Dissent: Report" by Staff Writers in Copenhagen (AFP). The article stated;
"China's Communist Party has recently asked provincial authorities to control and repress all sensitive political information, including on the Internet, a Danish news website quoted the leaked documents."
"All illegal and harmful information on Chinese and foreign web sites should be completely blocked, the crackdowns must be imposed on any aggression directed against the party and its leaders as well as against the promotion of other political systems and a free press."
It's unfortunate in our world that we still have this type of thinking going on amongst the leadership of any nation. Ruling with an "Iron Fist" is so 19th century, and for a nation as great and the strongest China, it's too bad they have to still resort to these sorts of things, or even the fact that they feel it necessary to maintain absolute control over everything. Of course, when you have 1.4 billion people it's a lot harder to control them if they decide they are not happy with the way you are running the country.
What is the leadership in China really afraid of one might ask. If the Emperor has no clothes then they should be afraid, but China has a lot going for it, and it's time for them to move into the 21st century. Of course, that's just my opinion, as a citizen living in a free country, and my observational conclusions will be different than those living in China, or running the place. However, I was really wondering what you think about all this. Please consider it, and e-mail me if you have additional comments.
