Importance of a Vision Statement

A Vision statement for an organization is important in the six following ways. Firstly, it is helpful in bridging the present and the future. Secondly, it is a source of inspiration because it gives hope for the future. Thirdly, it forms the criteria for decision making for the management.

Fourthly,it also explains the organizations significance and how it will improve whatever market place in which the organization participates in. In addition to the above four ways it describes what has to be achieved if the organization is to be successful. It creates organization interest and commitment. Last but not least a Vision Statement helps in defining the actions and goals that will help in achieving the vision.

Qualities of a Good Vision Statement

The statement has five qualities which are analyzed hereafter. It should have the following qualities as articulated by the top management in order to have impact on the employees.

· First and foremost it mus be conveyed in a dramatic and never ending manner to enhance motivation to fulfill it.

· Secondly it must also be inspirational that is a statement that provokes employees to give their best.

· Thirdly it must be communicated constantly for everyone to keep remembering it and their reason for being in the company.

· Fourthly it must keep linking the event of the present and the future to enhance consistency.

· Last but not least it must also incorporate beliefs such as being able to achieve objectives

Components of a Good Vision Statement

A good statement has seven components which are analyzed hereafter.

First and foremost it should enhance the development of a great new product that is inspiring and further development of existing products.

· Secondly it should aspire to serve customers through defined product portfolio that has been set by the management.

· Thirdly it should ensure quality of products offered to the customers.

· Fourthly it should be responsive to customers' needs and services.

· The fifth component is that it should bring about providing an enjoyable work environment for both the employers and employees.

· In addition to the five it should ensure financial strength and stability.

· Last but not least it should ensure sustainable growth of the company for the benefit of its stakeholders.

The components, the qualities and importance of a Vision Statement are as discussed above and are a very important aspect in every organization. It is the eye to the customers to know exactly what the company is about. Thus every business in Kenya should strive to develop a Vision Statement for itself.
