The Best Venice Festivals
Venice is a little bit like crazy paving and there is a piece of paving stone for everybody. We all know there are canals full of water and plenty of concrete, but did you know that there are also plenty of fun festivals and events?
Venice Carnival
The largest and most famous event held in Venice annually is the Venice Carnival. The Venice Carnival starts off sometime in early January or February and goes on for ten days. The celebrations are immense and fun with nothing held back. Festival participants drape themselves in authentic Venetian costumes and masks, the celebrations spilling out on to the many squares. The demand for Venetian masks and costumes is so high come carnival time, mask makers have to work all year round to supply for the huge demand. Most Venetians take part in the festival but the majority of people in attendance are foreigners who travel to Venice to ensure that they don't miss out on the fun.
Venice Biennale
A hugely popular bi-annual festival of modern art, the Biennale appreciates everything art. Architecture, film, music, dance, theatre and history are all included within the festival which is held every two years. The festival lasts for the duration of the summer months with the next one due around June 2011.
The Venice Film festival
Although not as widely known as the Cannes Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival is the oldest in the world and is very much respected among members of the film industry. The Film Festival was started in 1932 and brings out big names from the international movie industry. Last year the festival was included as part of the Biennale, films are screened for the crowd and awards called "Golden Lions" are given to the best films.

Tickets naturally sell out very fast and booking cheap hotels in Venice during the festivals can be difficult, make sure you're first so that you don't miss out.
