Some of the Best Famous Gaffes and Bloomers

We’ve all done it, no matter at what social level we committed our crime. Everyone who’s old enough to vote has spoken words they’ve immediately regretted, words which have caused embarrassment the second they’ve left our mouth. For those chosen ones who are in the eyes and ears of the media their famous gaffes and bloomers are more often than not caught on film.
Here’s my star-studded collection of some of the best famous gaffes and bloomers ever quoted. I think you’ll love some of these.
Let’s get off to a right royal start.

Royalty
Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth II is famous for putting his royal foot in it as he proved with this famous quote to a Scottish driving instructor.
“How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test.”

Prince Phillip also trod rather heavily on a trip down under when he said this classic quote to an Australian Aborigine.
“Still throwing spears?”
Maybe Prince Phillip should have been given a starring role in the hit TV series The Dukes of Hazard.

Politics

Former US President Ronald Reagan had this to say whilst testing his TV microphone before going on air. Mr Reagan didn’t realize the video tape was up and running.
“My fellow Americans, I’m pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.”
Silvio Berlusconi Some of the Best Famous Gaffes and BloomersFormer Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi spoke words he later regretted at the European Parliament when finding himself under strong questioning from German MEP Martin Schulz about his tough approach to immigration.
“I know that in Italy there is a man producing a film on Nazi concentration camps. I shall put you forward for the role of Kapo (guard chosen from among the prisoners). You would be perfect.”
Former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger had his post terminated in January this year but the ex Hollywood movie star was lucky it wasn’t earlier after relaying this one to the public.
“I think gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman.”

Movie Stars
American actress Joan Crawford (1905-1977) uttered these regretful words when being told Pearl Harbour was gone (destroyed).
“Oh dear, who was she?”
Actress and former glamour model Brooke Shields showed the American public she was the right person to front a US Government anti-smoking campaign with this intellectual comment, which must have been the fruit of hours of research.
“Smoking kills. If you’re killed, you’ve lost a very important part of your life”

Music

Britney Spears has a few silly quotes attributed to her but my guess is her hair was dumb blonde when she made this one.
“I’ve never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don’t like eating fish. And I know that’s very popular out there in Africa.”

Sport

Winston Bennett tried his level best to tag his fellow basketball players with the label ‘stupid’ when the Kentucky player came out with this one.
“I’ve never had major knee surgery on any other part of my body.”
Dizzy Dean Some of the Best Famous Gaffes and Bloomers
Jay Hanna ‘Dizzy’ Dean enjoyed a 13 year American Major League Baseball career as a pitcher way back in the 1930′s and 40′s. Dizzy lived up to his nickname after being hit by a ball in a 1934 World Series match and made this real dizzy statement.
“The doctors X-rayed my head and found nothing.”
Former BBC TV sports commentator Harry Carpenter must have winced with embarrassment after saying this whilst commentating on the Oxford – Cambridge University boat race.
“Ah, isn’t that nice, the wife of the Cambridge president is kissing the cox of the Oxford crew.”
I don’t think I can beat that one so I’ll finish there.
