Panasonic DMP-BDT210 Blu-Ray Player - One Of the Best Blu-Ray Players of 2011

The competition amongst mid-level Blu-ray players is fierce. Most of them offer us the key features we come to except such as Built-in Wi-Fi, 3D capability, Netflix streaming and of course excellent image and sound quality. However, the Panasonic DMP-BDT210, even though it does not have any major distinguishing features from other Blu-ray players, has managed to stand out from the crowd by doing just about everything right. The new features it has added to the 2011 model include a Touch Free Sensor for opening the disc tray and Skype capability. But it is the DMP-BDT210 very fast disc-loading speeds, simple and easy user interface and a great set of Online Streaming Services which makes it one of the best Blu-ray players for 2011.

Panasonic has designed the DMP-BDT210 with a normal glossy black front panel. To load a disc the front panel opens up, revealing the disc loading tray, some basic control buttons and a SD Card Slot and USB Port. The front panel closes once a disc has been loading, giving the DMP-BDT210 a clean modern look. However, if you are using a USB device, the front panel will have to stay open and you are forced to look at the unappealing interior. One unique feature of the DMP-BDT210 is the Touch Free Sensor which opens the disc loading tray by simply moving your hand over the top of the player. This innovative feature might just be a gimmick, but may come in useful in a darken room or if your hands are full.

VIDEO QUALITY: The image quality on the DMP-BDT210, like most players, is excellent when playing back Blu-rays and DVDs. You get Full HD 1080p/24 video resolution on Blu-rays and it up-scales DVDs to near HD levels. Panasonic has equipped their player with a new 3D Enhancer and Depth Controller and the latest UniPhier chip to improve 3D effects (you can control the depth of 3D images and covert 2D images to 3D) and produced a clear, sharper High-Definition pictures. And Panasonic has increased the vertical color data by 1.5 times compared to its 2010 players. Video connections for the DMP-BDT210 include HDMI Output and Composite Video Outputs. Component Outputs are missing. Which is not really a major problem, since component video is now regulated to only 480i resolution due to AACS rules.

AUDIO QUALITY: The DMP-BDT210 is capable to decode and bit-stream output the latest high-resolution audio formats - Dolby® TrueHD, DTS™-HD Master Audio Essential. It also has a new HDMI Jitter Purifier to improve the sound quality. The audio connections include HDMI Output, 2.0-ch Analog Outputs and a Digital Optical Output.

The simple lay-out of the user interface is different from other players, but to is easy and fast to use since there are less buttons to push. And the remote, has an efficient lay-out as well, with quick and direct access to both Viera Cast and Netflix. You can download a free app to let your iPhone control the player, but unfortunately you are unable to use a keyboard to input text commands.

Viera Cast provides access to Panasonic's online streaming features. They include Netflix, Amazon Instant, CinemaNow and Vudu. You get access to social networking sites such as Twitter, as well as other popular sites like YouTube, Pandora and Picasa. Missing are Hulu Plus and MLB.tv; which are two of the major streaming-media services. However, it does have Amazon Instant, which is not available on some of its competitors (Samsung BD6500, PS3 Slim). Amazon Instant offers you the most comprehensive array of TV shows (both Network and Cable Shows). Also, Panasonic has added Skype to Viera Cast.

Other features of the DMP-BDT2100 are built-in Wi-Fi, 3D Blu-ray playback, DLNA capability (Streaming digital media over your Home Network), and USB playback. The DMP-BDT210 supported media files include DivX, MP3, MKV and JPEG. The player does not have any internal storage memory available for downloading BD-Live content. But it does provide a SD Card Slot if you want to take advantage of this feature found on certain Blu-ray discs.

THE PROS: The Panasonic DMP-BDT210 may be this years "Best Budget Buy Player". The picture quality is excellent and is helped by the new UniPhier chip. Beside being able to display images at 1080p on both Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray (for both eyes), it is loaded with great extra features. Including Skype Video Calls, Wi-Fi Built-In, DLNA Certified, a Touch Free Sensor that will open the disc tray by just a wave of your hand and Viera Cast (online streaming such as Netflix, VUDU, Pandora, CinemaNow, YouTube, Twitter, Amazon and many more). It also has innovative 3D features such as 2D-3D Conversion and 3D Effect Controller.

THE CONS: The player is lacking any Component Video Outputs. This can be a problem for those with an older HDTV with limited or no HDMI inputs. No internal memory is present for BD-Live features. You will need a USB memory dive of at least 1 GB. Most 3D HDTVs offer 2D-3D conversion, so this feature on a Blu-ray player maybe redundant. The DMP-BDT210 is missing some high-profile online streaming services such as Hulu Plus and MLB.tv.

THE FINAL WORD: Purchasing the DMP-BDT210 you will surely get the most for your buck. It has many video and audio features that will bring you the best possible HD images and sound, in both 2D and 3D. Filled with features such as Skype, Online Streaming, DLNA and BD-Live it will provide you with many hours of entertainment beyond watching Blu-ray Discs. Added to this its eco-friendly design, easy user interface, faster load times and you have one of the best Blu-ray players of 2011. -

Best 2011 Data Recovery Software

We've all been there. You spent two hours working on a very important project and your computer crashes! A wave of nausea overcomes you when you realize that your files have been lost. In the past, you would have to take your computer to a professional. He would keep your computer for several days before rendering a verdict on whether he was able to recover even some of your lost files.

These days recovering files is a whole different story. Not only do you not have to give up your computer for several days, but you can recover the lost files yourself. There are many data recovery software programs on the market. Some are really good and very user-friendly while others are not. SoftwareInReview looked at several data recovery programs and rated them based on ease of use, effectiveness of recovering lost files, and availability of help/support. While the focus of our review was windows software, we did note that three of the programs rated in our top ten offered other platform options. R-Studio, Disk Doctors, and Quick
Recovery offer data recovery software for MAC and Linux as well as Windows.

Our top three picks were Digital Rescue Premium, Advanced Disk Recovery, and Recover My Files. Each program received very high marks for ease of use. Recover My Files came in third because it is a little pricier than the others and its speed of recovering files is slower.

Our fourth pick, Data Recovery Wizard, gives users the opportunity to recover drive partitions. It lost points for not providing a contact number as part of its help/support. It is also slower and more expensive than our top two picks.

Our fifth and sixth picks, Total Recall and Handy Recovery, fell short in different areas. Total Recall ranked higher than Handy Recovery because it is more effective. However, both programs lost points for help/support.

Both Windows Data Recovery and R-Studio, our seventh and eighth picks, did not fare as well as other programs we reviewed in the area of user-friendliness. R-Studio's user interface can be a little difficult to navigate. Windows Data Recovery can also be confusing, but its biggest drawback is its price.

Quick Recovery and Data Recovery Pro, our ninth and tenth picks, both offer effective recovery tools, but not much else. If you are looking for extra features, these might not be the programs for you. Their relatively low price does make them worth looking at.

Almost every program we reviewed offers a free download so you can try out the software. You are allowed to recover a limited number of files (the amount depends of the program), before having to purchase the software. These ten data recovery programs are worth looking over.

Best 2011 Mother's Day Gifts Ideas

Everybody knows that 2011 Mother's Day is coming. We often express our gratitude to our moms at that day. To celebrate this holiday, we have been planning to send amazing gifts. However, perhaps we ignored her real wishes.
Have you ever thought about sending your mom some special gifts rather than those expensive or useless presents? In this article, let's see what special gifts we can find on the internet.
My mom has spent a lot of time on me since I was young. She was so busy taking care of me that she didn't have enough time to take care of herself. On this Mother's Day, I will buy whatever she wants no matter how much it will cost.
I guess she would choose lingerie. My mom has really good body figure and she loves fashionable clothes and dresses. I want to buy her some sexy robes which are made of 100% Chinese silk. Only this kind of robes are comfortable enough for her and she can sleep soundly when wearing them.
Perhaps the second choice is a nice wedding dress. In the past wedding dresses are very expensive that only rich people could afford to buy one when they got married. My mom loves fancy things so she really wants to buy one wedding dress for her to make her dream come true. Nowadays we have many wedding dress stores, but I prefer to buy it online. Actually most of my clothes and even food are bought from online shops because they are indeed much cheaper! My mom is always saving money, and I think I also have to keep this good habit.
Another choice my mom may like is a pair of comfortable and nice shoes. She loves high heels because they make her more charming; but in fact, she seldom wears high heels because she has always a lot of things to do and she's always in a hurry. Though I can't afford Ferragamo or Christian Louboutin, I will try my best to find her favorite shoes.
Despite those gifts I mentioned above, I have come up with another great gift - I think it is perhaps the best gift I can find. I will try to spend more time on my mom rather than my work. I used to think work is the most important thing in my life but now I changed my opinion. I will try my best to make my mom happy; I will take her to some beautiful places; I will take her to her favorite restaurants; I will cook the meals with her every day; I will buy whatever she wants.
All of us want to give the perfect Mother's Day gifts to our moms, but few of us really knows what our moms want. Above are my 2011 Mother's Day gifts ideas, how about yours? For more information, please visit my squidoo.

Have you jumped on the bandwagon of people wanting to produce videos for the internet? Here is a list of video editing software currently on the market, ranked according to their ease of use, effectiveness, and the accessibility of help or support.
PowerDirector by Cyberlink was our number one pick. It was the only program to receive 5 out of 5 stars for ease of use, effectiveness, and help/support. This program is great for beginning to intermediate users. It produces video faster than any of the other programs reviewed and has many outstanding features. This program is hard to beat.
VideoStudio Pro X3 by Corel was our number two pick due to its level of help/support. A big drawback of this program is the huge learning curve that must be overcome to fully utilize all the program's features. Yet, we found that VideoStudio Pro is still the most flexible video editing software out there. Additionally, important tools are easily accessible and very easy to use. We also looked at Corel's DVD Movie Factory. This software has few audio and photo editing features, making it a better software for capturing video that editing it.
Premier Elements by Adobe is great for beginners as well as advanced users. The software allows even beginners to produce and share movies online like an expert.
Movie Edit Pro Plus HD by Magix provides users with 3D and HD video editing capabilities. This program can handle even the most creative user. The biggest drawback to this software is the amount of computer power required to run this program.
VideoPad by NCH Software made our list because of ease of use. This is a great program for beginners. The software's low price of $59.95 makes up for some of the features it lacks such as 3D editing.
Studio HD by Pinnacle provides enormous flexibility which is only limited by the user's imagination. It provides the opportunity to work with HDTV video formats and has extensive customization abilities. Due to the software's complexity, there is a huge learning curve.
Creator by Roxio supports more video outputs than any other program. Additionally, the drag and drop capabilities for video, audio, and effects, makes it easy to use for even the most novice user.
Vegas Movie Studio Platinum by Sony, however, is not easy to use and the lack of help/support is frustrating. The large variety of video editing features makes it difficult to learn, however, mastering the program is worth the benefits it reaps.
ShowBiz DVD by ArcSoft is also easy to use, making it a great program for all users. The program supports limited publishing formats, but has more special features and templates than most other programs.

Best Ways to Heal and Treat Scars

If you have undergone surgery recently, your healing scars may still be red or raised. You can apply a thin layer of Aquaphor or Bacitracin ointment on the scars once you remove your dressings. These can quicken the healing process. If you have problems with healing or any open wounds, then you may have to follow your plastic surgeon's instructions carefully.
In some people, complete scar healing can take several months or years. First of all, you must take care to protect the scars on your body from the harmful rays of the sun. With scar massage, the softening of your scars can happen over time. Massaging the scars is one of the best ways to heal or treat scars without side effects. You can also make use of a skin cream or ointment such as Scarfade or Mederma for this purpose. Silicone sheeting is prescribed by some surgeons to aid the scar healing process. This is available at several pharmacies and drug stores online. You can speak to your surgeon to understand whether you are the right candidate for silicone sheeting or not.
Serious scarring from previous bouts of acne can also be treated in various ways. Laser resurfacing is a popular form of treatment that is offered in the doctor's or dermatologist's office. The laser can leave the skin smoother by removing the damaged top layer of skin. This treatment is carried out after putting the patient under local anesthesia. Skin can heal completely within 10 days post treatment. Pimple scars can be treated effectively through another popular method called dermabrasion. In this method, the surface of the skin is worn down with the help of arotating wire brush or instrument. Following scar healing, a smoother, new layer of skin starts replacing the old layer. However, the time taken for skin healing using dermabrasion may go up to 3 weeks.
The fractional laser therapy treatment is the most advanced method to treat acne scars. The healing time is shorter in this method since it does not affect the top layer of the skin. However, the fractional laser therapy treatment is quite costly, and is mostly not covered by insurance.
Most post surgical scars tend to heal or fade over time. If you face the problem of un-favorable scar healing, you can discuss with your plastic surgeon about the possible solutions. While keloid or raised scars can be treated using local steroid injections, the irregular scars can be corrected using the surgical methods.
Scars can be healed or treated using natural methods also. Essential oils such as lavender, chamomile or bergamot can all help scars heal naturally. Fresh Aloe Vera juice is also an excellent cure to treat or heal scars the natural way. It works really well for facial scars like pimples. Vitamin E and castor oil can also be applied on the scars regularly to get rid of it eventually. These have been used since time immemorial to prevent and reduce stretch marks and other types of scars.

Housing Societies Which Are Likely to Become Famous in 2011

Few years back the Pakistan property market was badly hit by the greatest property slump. That slump caused losses of millions to infinite number people because at that time property in Pakistan was at boom and every one was investing in different property sectors. After the slump in property market the Pakistan also went through other different problems and catastrophes like earth quake of 2005, war on terrorism, electricity shortage and the great devastating flood of 2010. All the catastrophes combined took Pakistan almost back to Stone Age. Now gradually Pakistan's economy is stabilising itself to much extant. After many years of property slump the Pakistan real estate sector is again turning the tide and the New Year 2011 seems to be a promising one.

The development in different Pakistan property sectors throughout Pakistan is started again. Both residential and commercial areas are facing development. Although the development is quite slow but it is better than before as new foreign and local investors are looking towards Pakistani soil as a rich source of investment. Various mega projects are currently under construction like Lahore Expo Centre which has 60 storeys,

Lahore towers 1 and 2 which have 60 and 45 storys respectively, Lahore Alamgir Tower 31 storey high and Islamabad Goldcrest 28 story high. Besides this there are many other towers and buildings which are approved and proposed like Lahore LDA tower, Islamabad Centaurus, Karachi Avari Extension, Karachi IT tower, Islamabad Grand Hyatt etc. Aside from these commercial projects there are many residential projects which are expected to gain popularity in 2011. Among these residential housing societies is DHA phase 9, 10, Divine Garden, Gawadar City etc.

Nowadays in Pakistan like in many other nations the trend of villa living is increasing day by day. This increasing trend is not merely the outcome of number of buyers with good purchasing power but also due to the need of families who are looking to live in world class communities.

Considering the state of the market many people think that it is the good time to invest in Pakistan Real Estate because now rates are quite low and have started to rise gradually. There are many real estate agents and firms that are busy buying projects that are going to take years to complete. Besides there are also numerous housing societies that are being constructed in Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore real estate market etc.

Most of the societies are being targeted at the upper end of the market with prices in hundred-thousand ranges. The speculation suggests that there will be many popular societies in Pakistan in 2011 and in 2012.

The most famous beach and the best water, too

Daytona Beach is a tourism promoter's dream. The city has the World's Most Famous Beach, the Great American Race and ...the Best Tasting Water in the World.
The first two titles are old hat. Daytona's beach has been world famous for a long, long time, and the Daytona 500 was well on the way to earning the tag "the great American race" more than 50 years ago. But only recently has the city's tap water been recognized as the crème de la crème of municipal water.
In 2005, Daytona Beach broke through in the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting contest, winning first place for its smooth, clear, eminently drinkable water. Last week, the city duplicated that feat, claiming the first prize in a battle with 34 other municipal water systems.
Thirteen states and Canada were represented in the competition. So, for the sake of fairness and balance, let's concede it's possible that Daytona Beach's water isn't the best in the entire world. But this event was touted as the Academy Awards of Water, and the Academy -- actually, a panel of judges made up mainly of members of the media -- gave the city the coveted engraved bowl with a gold medal.
With apologies to Sally Field, they like the city's water! They really like it!
The contest helps promote tourism in Berkeley Springs, W. Va. West Virginia is a lovely state, but tourism officials there don't have the Daytona 500 or Bike Week to draw visitors. Apparently, an international water tasting contest is the next best thing.
And a good thing for Daytona Beach, too. A contest press release declared: "Daytona Beach, Florida, was indisputably rated the best tasting water in the world." The judges used wine-tasting techniques -- they even cleansed their palates between tastings -- to decide the winner.
"Clear and fresh" is how one judge described the Daytona Beach entry. Local tourism officials should consider featuring those words in their summer brochures. How about this? "Daytona Beach -- where the water outside is warm and salty and the water inside is clear and fresh."
Or: "Come to Daytona Beach and have a drink on us."

8. Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm has always been a city under-appreciated with surprises and discoveries. It’s high time everyone should see the main sight like the Royal Palace and the winding cobbled street of medieval Gamla Stan. There are a lot of wonderful places in Stockholm you haven’t seen or heard yet so it’s the best place to explore and discover new things – culturally and geographically.

This place is best for nature lovers.

4. Cesme Peninsula, Turkey

Visitors can find lodging in opulent bayside resorts, romantic boutique hideaways, or even a stately Pasha’s manse. Step back in time at Erytrai, the city of antiquity peeping out from under the Mediterranean brush, and pass into the medieval era in Cesme’s hybrid Genoese-Ottoman fortress before returning to the 21st century in one of the many elegant street side cafĂ©s of Alaçati or the “White-Glove Restaurants” at Dalyan cove.

3. Nahanni National Park, Canada

Would you want to try and experience the Canadian wilderness? Paddling down the Nahanni River may be it. While the remote Nahanni National Park in the Northwest Territories has always had a degree of recognition. Its profile increased dramatically in 2009 when the park underwent a massive expansion to become more than 11,500 square miles of protected land which is almost the same size of Switzerland. A lot of people choose to float comfortably down the river in a whitewater raft and enjoying the abundant wildlife than warming up at north part. Heat can pretty make you lazy and get easily mad so why not head to some place where you can enjoy.

2. Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica

A small town in Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, Puerto Viejo, offers comfortable environment, spicy food, caress tropical heat, and streets filled with the rhythmic cheerful of patois and reggae music. Watch surfers tackle Salsa Brava, a steep reef break reminds of Hawaii's treacherous Bonzai Pipline. Around South of town, white sand beaches backed by thick rain forest and protected park lands. If you get bored of just sunbathing, you can hike the trails of the nearby Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge and Cahuita National Park. You’d be surprised by the roar of howler monkeys and parrots that fly by.

1. Ponza and the Pontine Islands, Italy

Italy's Pontine archipelago is one of the most naturally gorgeous and fun islands. Just far enough from the mainland to be a vacation spot for mass tourism. The trouble of making a trip here is much the better for those who made it because what you'll find is a rare Mediterranean gem that has kept its Italian identity complete. If you want to come and see the place at its best, then come by at the months of May, June, and September. Locals will tell you this is when their island really shines best. It's not that Ponza is undiscovered yet but hopefully a lot would visit this place and see for themselves.

A Merry Jolly Christmas from the team of World Travel Guide. We’ll see you again in 2011! Don’t forget to share the ups and downs of your travels with us next year.

The 10 best things to do in 2011

Punctuate this year with meaningful experiences. Choose from options that girdle the globe – from cricket bats and birthday parties to sobering memorials or a copy of Led Zeppelin IV. Here’s our pick of the 10 best things to do next year, fresh from Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2011.

1. Hug a tree in the Amazon

The UN is declaring 2011 the International Year of the Forest, with events planned from El Salvador to Bulgaria to help promote and preserve the globe’s forests. Sounds like a good time for the ultimate forest, the Amazon. The region, which is about as broad as the continental USA, is filled with opportunities, even in the wake of deforestation. Brazil’s main hub for the Amazon is Manaus, reached by plane or a five-day boat ride inland from BelĂ©m, where you can book tours to hike in the jungle, spot dolphins, toucans and monkeys, fish for piranha, and opt for luxury cabins on stilts. Try going in June and July when high tide means ‘hikes’ are done by canoe. Trips can also be arranged from places like Leticia, Colombia or Iquitos, Peru.
Brazil’s Mamirauá Reserve, the nation’s oldest sustainable reserve, really gets ‘eco’ right – stay in the floating Pousada Uacari or in cabins on stilts.

2. Cricket in India and Sri Lanka

You can break the ice with locals in India by talking Bollywood or curry, but why let the real national pastime take the backseat? Cricket reigns here above all else, and in 2011 (the 290th anniversary of the first recorded match in India) it’s no contest. In February and March, India and Sri Lanka host the Cricket World Cup (India’s third time). India has never won at home – only winning in England in 1983 – and all eyes will be on three-peat champions Australia. Wherever you are, get some makeshift lessons and connect with locals. And see if you can’t get a seat at Mumbai’s newly renovated Wankhede Stadium for the final.
To get some pre-trip tingle in your wicket, check out India’s cricketing pulse at www.cricinfo.com or www.cricbuzz.com. Sri Lanka’s turning the occasion into a broad Visit Sri Lanka Year.

3. Visit the new 9/11 memorial

New York’s World Trade Center site has been closed to the public since 9/11, but on the 10th anniversary of the attacks this September, the National September 11 Memorial opens the site for public viewing for the first time. Construction of nearby towers (including the Freedom Tower) and the memorial’s museum will be ongoing, but in the 6-acre plaza, one can view waterfalls lined with the names of all 9/11 victims and get a sneak preview of two recovered ‘tridents’ (steel columns) from the former WTC that will fill the museum atrium in 2012.
The not-for-profit organisation running the memorial plans to open the museum by 11 September 2012. Get more information at www.national911memorial.org.

4. DIY Wonders of the World list

We do like lists, don’t we? The overlap of Ancient Wonders of the World, Wonders of the Underwater World and Wonders of the Industrial World grows in 2011 with the New Wonders of the World’s 2nd edition, this time focusing on nature. It’s all decided by public vote, with many good candidates including Venezuela’s Angel Falls, Argentina/Brazil’s Iguazu Falls and Vietnam’s Halong Bay. Spend 2011 trying to visit all seven or create your own dang list. Seven Wonders of the Sports World, or maybe Top Seven Smug Politician Failures or Top Seven Places that Stink?
The New Seven Wonders of the World Foundation unveils the results of the new list on 11 November 2011.

5. Pan American Games, Guadalajara, Mexico

The birthplace of tequila, mariachis and the Mexican broad-rimmed sombrero, Guadalajara is without a doubt a memorable spot to party. It’s a nice alternate gateway to Mexico City for accessing nearby colonial towns like San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato. And it’s set to really let loose from 13 to 30 October when the Western Hemisphere’s Olympics – aka Pan American Games – comes knocking. The games, held every four years since 1951, feature 5000 athletes representing 42 countries.
For information on events and tickets, check the official website of the games, Guadalajara 2011.

6. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, Oslo, Norway

Nothing beats the flag-waving frenzy of Norwegians cheering on their skiers at any winter event and that only escalates when the event is local. Oslo hosts the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships from 24 February to 6 March, a serious skiing affair of 21 events including the famed Holmenkollen Ski Jump, site of the world’s oldest ski jump. At its museum you can learn about the delicate art of ski jumping and skiing’s 4000-year history, as well as take a simulated ski jump for a laugh (a queasy laugh anyway).
You can visit Holmenkollen’s Ski Museum all year; for more on the event check its website www.oslo2011.no.

7. Climb a ‘stairway to heaven’

Robert Plant swears the lyrics to the Led Zeppelin’s rock anthem ‘Stairway to Heaven’ (turning 40 on 8 November; long live rock!) were written off the cuff, and that there really aren’t Satanic messages in that wonderful ‘a bustle in your hedgerow’ part when you play it backwards. But with a little imagination you can place the ‘stairway’ near Bron-Yr-Aur, the Welsh cottage where Jimmy Page first put together the immortal chords. In the south of Snowdonia National Park, the 892m Cader Idris is the big climb here, reached in five hours along the rocky Ty Nant Path or Dolgellau Path – or with stronger thighs via the Minffordd Path. Views up there can make you wonder.
Page’s old cottage is near Wales’ ‘green capital’ Centre for Alternative Technology, incidentally home to one of the world’s steepest funicular trains. You can arrange tours and stay in ecocabins.

8. Isle of Man motorbike race

A haven for tax dodgers and outdoorsy types most of the year, the remote oddball Isle of Man transforms in May and June for the Tourist Trophy, an engine-revving motorbike race that attracts 50,000 people every year – and 2011 is its 100th birthday. You can reach it by plane, or boat from Liverpool, and you can see much of the island by rental bike or on foot; the 95-mile Raad ny Foillan is a complete circuit of the island. Peek at past TT winners at the Manx Museum in the island’s main town of Douglas.
Keep up to date with contestants and past TT glory at the race’s website.

9.  Indy 500, Indianapolis, USA

On the subject of engines and 100th birthdays, the USA’s premier motor race also turns 100 in 2011. Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosts the event over the Memorial Day weekend in late May, but celebrates the race all month. You can take a bus tour of the 2.5-mile oval track any time – at a snail-like 60km/h.
Plan way ahead if you want to join up to 450,000 fans at the actual race. See imstix.com for ticket information.

10. Write a postcard

E-books, mobile phone apps, augmented reality – we live and travel in a world of instant information and sore thumbs. This year is a good time to pause and revisit that ol’ travel chestnut: the postcard. What started a century ago as a craze of keepsakes (recipients cherished them as much as travellers sending them cherished their actual experiences) has lost out to wi-fi , text messaging and Flickr images. A shame. Sending a postcard leads to all sorts of local life commonly missed – stationery shops, post offi ces, funny stamps – as well as the art of actually writing with a pen.

Some of the Best Famous Gaffes and Bloomers

We’ve all done it, no matter at what social level we committed our crime. Everyone who’s old enough to vote has spoken words they’ve immediately regretted, words which have caused embarrassment the second they’ve left our mouth. For those chosen ones who are in the eyes and ears of the media their famous gaffes and bloomers are more often than not caught on film.
Here’s my star-studded collection of some of the best famous gaffes and bloomers ever quoted. I think you’ll love some of these.
Let’s get off to a right royal start.

Prince Philip caricature 225x300 Some of the Best Famous Gaffes and Bloomers

Royalty
Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth II is famous for putting his royal foot in it as he proved with this famous quote to a Scottish driving instructor.
“How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test.”

Prince Phillip also trod rather heavily on a trip down under when he said this classic quote to an Australian Aborigine.
“Still throwing spears?”
Maybe Prince Phillip should have been given a starring role in the hit TV series The Dukes of Hazard.

Politics

Former US President Ronald Reagan had this to say whilst testing his TV microphone before going on air. Mr Reagan didn’t realize the video tape was up and running.
“My fellow Americans, I’m pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.”
Silvio Berlusconi Some of the Best Famous Gaffes and BloomersFormer Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi spoke words he later regretted at the European Parliament when finding himself under strong questioning from German MEP Martin Schulz about his tough approach to immigration.
“I know that in Italy there is a man producing a film on Nazi concentration camps. I shall put you forward for the role of Kapo (guard chosen from among the prisoners). You would be perfect.”
Former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger had his post terminated in January this year but the ex Hollywood movie star was lucky it wasn’t earlier after relaying this one to the public.
“I think gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman.”

Movie Stars
American actress Joan Crawford (1905-1977) uttered these regretful words when being told Pearl Harbour was gone (destroyed).
“Oh dear, who was she?”
Actress and former glamour model Brooke Shields showed the American public she was the right person to front a US Government anti-smoking campaign with this intellectual comment, which must have been the fruit of hours of research.
“Smoking kills. If you’re killed, you’ve lost a very important part of your life”

Music

Britney Spears has a few silly quotes attributed to her but my guess is her hair was dumb blonde when she made this one.
“I’ve never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don’t like eating fish. And I know that’s very popular out there in Africa.”

Sport

Winston Bennett tried his level best to tag his fellow basketball players with the label ‘stupid’ when the Kentucky player came out with this one.
“I’ve never had major knee surgery on any other part of my body.”
Dizzy Dean Some of the Best Famous Gaffes and Bloomers
Jay Hanna ‘Dizzy’ Dean enjoyed a 13 year American Major League Baseball career as a pitcher way back in the 1930′s and 40′s. Dizzy lived up to his nickname after being hit by a ball in a 1934 World Series match and made this real dizzy statement.
“The doctors X-rayed my head and found nothing.”
Former BBC TV sports commentator Harry Carpenter must have winced with embarrassment after saying this whilst commentating on the Oxford – Cambridge University boat race.
“Ah, isn’t that nice, the wife of the Cambridge president is kissing the cox of the Oxford crew.”
I don’t think I can beat that one so I’ll finish there.

Top Ten Best $wiss Secrets of The Rich and Famous

As many people have observed, “Success leaves clues.” If you want to achieve extraordinary success in the coming year, study the experts, do what they do, and modify their techniques to suit your particular situation. It’s easy!
Well, maybe it's not that easy, but there are basic fundamentals. In the belief that we all need to be reminded of them regularly, here are some of the secrets that have helped me and my clients over the years:
Getting Rich
1. Focus on values. I’ve known people who made some money, but I’ve never known anyone who got rich without examining their own values, priorities and beliefs. Start by writing down a list of things you value, things you believe, what you want, and what you plan to do with this incredible life you have. Start with your values.

2. Get a life. Before you can handle great wealth, you must make room for it. This is the old, “if you build it, they will come” model. Trying to squeeze success, wealth, fame or fortune into a small life won’t work. Create a life first; the lifestyle of your dreams will follow.

3. Eliminate clutter. Trying to create success and achieve wealth while your life’s a mess won’t work. Success requires clear priorities and a passionate commitment. Simplify your life. Eliminate the excuses. Clean up everything that distracts you from reaching your most important goals.

4. Specify your results. Nobody can hit a target they can’t see. Define your outcomes and set clear, achievable results in advance. Know what “success” looks like! Have measurable, specific outcomes and determine that you will achieve them!

5. Burn your ships. There’s an ancient story about a Greek general who landed his troops on an enemy shore, then burned his ships. He wanted to make it very clear: Retreat and failure were not an option! Leave no room for failure.

6. Put in more than you take out. No one will pay you more than your services are worth! Get clear about that! You just can’t fool people very long. Your services and your results must be far more valuable than the small fee you charge. Some people will rip you off; the rest will make you rich! "Thank you!!"

7. Live below your means. Rich people know this. Wealth is accumulated, re-invested, used wisely and given away. It is never spent! Let the millionaire athletes and folks who win lotteries buy the fancy cars and flashy jewelry. If you want to achieve great wealth, live simply, invest wisely, enjoy it all!

8. Get rich slowly. The key to great wealth is to minimize income, while maximizing your assets. Income is taxed. Income gets spent — think about all the cars, boats, diamonds and houses people with huge incomes like to buy! Investing in assets that are hard to spend (buildings, stocks and bonds, collectible art, etc) creates wealth that is not taxed, and isn’t spent on a casual impulse.

9. Pay lots of taxes. No, I’m not talking about paying more than you owe, but pay every cent the law requires. Rich folks don’t haggle over nickels and dimes, they invest to make millions! If you can legally avoid taxes, do so! Use the law to your advantage when you can. But juggling the books to hide income or save a few bucks, wastes your time, wastes your energy, creates fear of getting caught, and makes you cheap. Don’t do it!

10. Give it away. You can’t take it with you when you die, and money is not attracted to the selfish, the miserly or the mean. If you would attract money to your life, be clear about what you want to do with it. Contribute to charities that will use it for good. Make the world a better, richer place and you’ll create wealth that will last for generations to come. Your children will thank you!
